A place for creative expression
At UWA, the arts give students different ways to observe, imagine and communicate. Through visual art, music and drama, they develop creative confidence while learning to listen to others, take risks and share ideas in their own voice. Creative expression is part of school life and contributes to a balanced education.
The creative studio
ImagineStudents explore ideas through drawing, making, design and a range of materials. They practise techniques, study different ways of seeing and learn that a strong piece of work often grows through experimentation and revision. Art can help them interpret a story, notice a detail in nature or respond to an issue that matters to them.
ListenMusic invites students to listen closely, recognise patterns and express feeling through sound. Singing, playing, composing and performing offer opportunities to develop skill and confidence, individually and with others. Working as part of an ensemble also teaches attention, cooperation and the satisfaction of creating something together.
PerformDrama helps students explore character, perspective and the power of a story. Through improvisation, rehearsal and performance, they learn to use voice and movement, respond to others and communicate with an audience. The process builds confidence, empathy and the willingness to try an unfamiliar role.
Exhibitions, performances and school events allow students to share their creative work with the UWA community. We value the finished presentation and the learning behind it: the questions asked, choices made, practice undertaken and courage to put an idea into the world.
